I helped transform CSM’s website into what it currently is. It was a team effort between us editors and we all contributed in our own special way. Mine was on the graphic design and online content side of things.

We received multiple awards for our work that year and left a long-lasting impact that is still felt to this day.

1) National Scholastic Press Association Newspaper Pacemaker Finalist distinguishment (2018-19 school year) / NSPA Pacemakers are known as the Pulitzer Prizes of student journalism.

2. Columbia Scholastic Press Association News Crown Award (2018-19 school year)

3. Student Newspapers Online Distinguished Website award (2018-19 school year)

4. “Best Website” award from the Dallas Morning News (2018-19 school year)

I made CSM’s social media logos 7 years ago on Gimp with a 180 dollar laptop my late grandma bought me.

They feature the same art direction that I developed for CSM’s first podcast “The Penny Podcast” which I ran for 50 episodes until I graduated.

Since then, there have been countless iterations of CSM podcasts.

I am extremely proud of the legacy that I left there. From my designs to my articles and everything in between.

Education Work

Target audience : My 135 6th Grade Dual Language students from varying backgrounds.

True north: Scaffold everything through the usage of good design. From slides to journal work.

Market results:

My approach to teaching (pencil and paper, physical posters, foldouts, handouts) in the age of Chromebooks and BLEND led to each student making beautiful, physical work.

Students trusted me. Administration trusted me.

I taught well.

My biggest design takeaway from teaching is that pixel perfection in design doesn‘t matter if your design isn’t functional.

You have to figure out what works with your audience, your market, your students.

Sometimes you do that on the first try.

Sometimes on the 10th.

What matters is that you don’t stop trying.
